Market Segmentation

Demographic - Young professions/ students or graduates with disposable income  ( E.g. parents- pocket money) ages 18-30 with some Men who enjoy playing a few Video games due to it being a hobby.
Geographic - Not specific however the more developed and more worked on games in China or Japan do tend to be post poned coming to other countries like the Uk and America for a various amount of years which leads to people believing there is some sort of bias in a sense. However for a magazine I believe that the magazine would be released fairly.

The Design
The very weight of the magazine is quite heavy as I had to grip it harder than I usually would with a regular magazine that's pages are quite thin. this led me to believe that there is a lot of content inside of the magazine as it was heavy and sturdy and yes there was. Compared with other kids magazine the actual detail that I had to read and absorb was far greater than I expected which led me to really try and understand all of the key factors that are in the magazine.

The techniques used to create images
 The main image for the magazine is not drawn by hand but is taken from a scene during the borderlands game series where this character is first scene in the game. By doing this it allows readers to see the actual in game scenarios along with the graphics that the game has rather than showing a 5 minute trailer about the game and none of the footage is actually from the game which would miss lead the audience.

The Mast head doesn't scream at you
The title of the magazine 'Xbox world 360' is not Omni present but it is very noticeable at the front of the magazine as the it blends in with the initial design of the magazine. There are no colours that scream out at you that may cause confliction between different colours that don't go together but the way that the magazine is laid out along with the colour scheme allows the mast head's initial design to complement the rest of the magazine. The colours on the front cover are yellow orange and a hint of black, now the green complements the yellow as it allows the green to highlight important words allowing that to stand out to readers.

There is a certain amount of confidence in the design of the front cover of the magazine as it is only really showing of one main game above all the others. Along with this even tho its using colours such as yellow and red which are known to be bright they are dull and not to bright which contrasts with the general idea of what those colours in peoples minds would look like.

Hello my name is Daniel James McDonald I'm an  A level media student from Rooks heath college. I have just recently created blog to present media coursework to allow others to be able to share my experiences on a daily basis . During this I will be uploading every so often to make sure that i have enough applicable work to be sufficient and up todate.
During this i will be looking at many different magazine and analysing them. While analysing them i will be bettering my self at looking at what kind of details that publishers put in their magazines that the general public who just buy the magazine's wouldnt notice.
The reason i want to better myself by doing this is because i will be able to eventually create my own magazine cover that will rival that of real publishers who get paid to make real magazine's.
By analysing magazines i will be able to see the techniques that publishers use when taking photo's of the indiviual or group that i will have that will be featured in my magazine.
So far i have been able to analyse 2 magazine which are the mens magazine featuring Henry cavil in the mens fitness magazine and finnaly the gaming magazine that is almost finished. Analysing these 2 magazines i have noticed the difference in the two genre's of magazine's. For example the mens magazine which is aimed at middle aged men going onwards had the colour scheme that was pretty rough hard and cold with colours like black and gray which wouldnt be that eye catching towards the younger generation. However when i analysed the gaming magazine i saw the large difference with the colour scheme along with the content. In the gaming magazine it had flashy colours a much more vibrant range of images however the amount of detail in the gaming magazine did not even rival that of the mens magazine.
I found that the mens magazine didnt have as much pictures but focused purely on the literal content rather than eye catching and short statements as the older generation generally have more paitence and time to sit down and spend time and read and evaluate things rather than the younger generation.
When the younger generation look at magazines or anything if it doesnt catch their interest they will most likely put it down the following minute or couplee of seconds, due to this the gaming magazine have short statements and flashy pictures to essentially keep them intertained.
In the mens magainze the colour schemes tend to be colours that are dark and metalic which refers to how they are seen as business men who are soley focused on the work. Which strongly differs from gaming magazine's and child magazines as they are seen as free and happy so the colours seem to be more happy and light.

Analysation of Magazine cover






 

The Mens fitness magazine is a magazine that has been created for mainly Men however there are someone women that tend to pick up the magazine to essentially see what its like due to curiosity or that they may be simply a fan of the actor that is presented on the front cover of the magazine. This magazine helps men and women get into fitness by showing some work out routines along with multiple fashionable tips, e.g. which clothes they should wear with such and such which allows them to create a certain thesis or learning atmosphere through the mag e.g. a niche audience.
The colour scheme for Mens fitness is Black and Gray. The colour black is relayed with the colour conotations of power and strong will, this also corresponds with the colour conotations of gray as it is known to have the colour conotations of sophisticated and conservative which may appeal to most of the male audience that will be purchasing this magazine.
The reason that this appeals to most of the male audience is that the famous actor on the front of the magazine is also known from multiple different movies and tv series.Henry Cavil is known from the tudors and also one of his latest films the man of steel along with batman and superman dawn of justice. He is reffered to as the man of steel, this could be seen as a pun but also is a good usage of the colour scheme and also the mast head of the magazine. Steel is known to be cold and dull so the colours gray and black corollate with this along with Henry cavil being in black and white colour complexion through editing. Most males may aspire to be like Henry cavil after watching his movie Man of steel and through this buying this magazine may allow them to dream of becoming like him through seeing his work out routine and along with a few quotes from him along with his style of clothing.
There is also usage of Direct address in this magazine cover as Henry cavil is not looking to the side or down he is looking directly at the audience which may show off an atmosphere of him being challenging and strong as in most other magazine covers most likely with women who are shot in the male gaze they are seen as vunerable and weak but Henry cavil being the man is seen as a strong as profitable man and most people will aspire to be like that to be able to challenge society. This also reinforces hierachy as Henry cavil is dominant in this magazine cover and is seen to be stronger than most others.
The total price for the men's fitness ads are £5 but are bought through subscriptions which are monthly purchases. Most of the content that we would want to know that is inside the magazine is presented on the front of cover for example on henry cavils left hand side we see the sentence superman's to super spy henry cavils steel and style. Due to this we would suspect that inside the magazine we would get a sneak peak at what the type of clothing and colour coordination's that Henry Cavil wears. This magazine is for men from the ages of thirty going onto late fifties and going on due to multiple things that are presented with this magazine. For one the actor on the front cover is middle aged, another factor would be that again the colour scheme of the magazine would incline us to acknowledge that the magazine isn't for young people as it doesn't seem to have colourful presentation as it is mainly dry and cold rather than vibrant and bursting with content.
The second page of the magazine is an agony page which allows the consumers of the magazine to send in question requests and ask the producers certain information about certain topics and then get a an answer back in the following or the same magazine before it's published. For example in one of the men's magazine a question was asked 'should i ditch the low carb diet'. Now this is very useful as it allows its readers to get information on how they should stay fit and how useful certain dieting techniques are. The 4th page of the magazine tends to be a advertisement of an actor or maybe a new car thats being released to certain audiences that can most likely afford the price of it.
After that page there is Editorial page which is an message from the editor talking about how they made the magazine or how they got in contact with certain individuals in the magazine branching off to certain information that may be useful in the future about upcoming magazine.
The following page would be a job advertisement for older men who have retired and would probably be looking for a job thats not to comittment based but also allows them to work enough to get by.
Finnaly the last two pages of the magazine tend to be Diet plans, for example try this diet and burn off x amount of carbs for 72 hours which is actually very compelling and eye catching to male audiences who want to get in shape fast and also dont have to be spending that much money on protein drinks or other sources.
